Remapping Services

What is Remapping?

Most modern vehicles contain an ECU (or Engine Control Unit) that is effectively a small computer which controls how the engine works. Vehicle manufacturers de-tune the engine by setting the software on the ECU to default before sending the vehicle out. This is done due to the manufacturers having to sell their cars all over the world, this means that the software settings on the ECU must take into account different climates, laws & restrictions and varying quality of fuels. Vehicle remapping is basically the modification/replacement of the manufactures default software on a vehicles ECU.

How does it work?

A vehicle remap replaces default software on the ECU, overwriting it with new software which can be programmed to optimize the cars overall performance. This is known as vehicle remapping because the ECU is essentially a program that controls how the engine works. When your car is remapped, the tuned software is plugged into your cars serial port (or OBD port) which then overwrites the engine map with the new version to enhance engine performance. The ability to flash directly through the OBD has brought the tuning industry on leaps and bounds, with constant development on the engine now being much quicker via the flash process, it has enabled Celtic Tuning to develop some of the best software in the world.

What are the effects of ECU remapping?

Many people say that ECU remapping doesn’t affect fuel usage, however this is not technically true. Because of the process involved in ECU remapping more fuel is going to be consumed in order to produce the increase in power. If the car is driven in an enthusiastic way after the remap has been carried out then the fuel economy will not increase (and in some cases may decreases). If, however, the driver modifies their driving style to make the most of the increased power and torque throughout the rev range then fuel economy can be increased. A good example of this could be that the improvement in torque produced by the engine after remapping means the driver no longer has to drop down a gear to maintain speed on an incline or may not have to change gear as frequently in traffic. All of these little things add up to an improvement in fuel economy.

Why choose vehicle remapping?

There are many reasons to choose vehicle remapping. Firstly, you will notice that your engine responds better when the accelerator is pressed. The overall torque and power will be noticeably increased. Power delivery will be smoother making for a much safer driving experience, which in turn also makes it easier and safer to overtake. During normal driving you will notice that your MPG is better which not only decreases the cost of fuel that you will have to pay, but it also minimizes your carbon foot print. Throttle response will be improved and the rev range will be enhanced.

Are there any disadvantages?

Berengrave Service Station are in partnership with Celtic Tuning, specialists in development and reverse engineering the performance remapping of most modern vehicles. With all manufacturers now turning to modular engines to ensure maximum cost savings and economies of scale, it has ensured even greater tolerances are available in the engine units. Manufacturers can now produce fewer engines to keep design & manufacturing costs down and use software to provide varying levels of power outputs to satisfy the various markets.

Due to our experience with tuning vehicles, where requested, we can also provide custom remapping whereby we are able to accommodate larger turbos, injectors etc as well as remove speed limiters and raise rpm limiters etc.

Improve your vehicles performance with a Celtic Tuning Performance Remap from Berengrave Service Station. Up to 40% more power & torque.

Economy Remapping

With the ever increasing cost of fuel it has become even more important to obtain efficiency from engines in order to try and reduce the increasing costs of vehicle ownership. We specialise in economy remapping of modern engines whether it is for an individual or for a transport fleet company.

The decision as to whether or not to have an economy remap is not whether you can afford it or not. As with savings of up to 20% improved fuel economy our economy remap will pay for itself in no time.

To obtain the very best in fuel economy savings we are able to insert rpm and maximum speed limiters. The driver then utilises the low down torque that the diesel engine produces and changes gear at a more sensible rpm allowing even better economy gains to be achieved.

Save money on fuel with a Celtic Tuning Economy Remap from Berengrave Service Station. You could save up to 20% on rising fuel costs today!

Fleet Remapping

Fleet Remapping

We can provide Celtic Tuning Fleet Management Solutions. Protect your business assets, reduce your fleets operational costs & CO2 emissions.

An engine remap provided by Berengrave Service Station can recalibrate your fleet's vehicles to your specific requirements which will enable fuel savings, RPM / speed restrictions and a reduction in CO2 emissions. We understand that driving styles can adversely affect your operational costs and not just in fuel, but servicing and maintaining your van and not to mention lost revenue whilst the vehicles are being repaired. Our Fleet mapping solutions can enforce a driving style so that maximum efficiency can be achieved and ensure your running costs are kept to a minimum.

The following charts are actual data from a Vw Caddy 1.9 TDi 102bhp. They highlight a typical driver profile that many fleets experience. Celtic Tuning eco recalibration allows fleet managers to retsrict driver behaviour ensuring protection of the vehicle, improved fuel economy and a reduction in C02 emissions.

The graphs above show the drivers behaviour over the recorded journey. It shows that the driver spent most of the time between 3,500-4,500rpm and 80%+ throttle position. In basic it is a perfect example of hard driving.

The graphs above show the drivers behaviour over the recorded journey. It shows that the driver spent most of the time between 1,750-2,500pm and 40-60%+ throttle position. This chart is after the vehicle has been economy tuned and rev restricted, a perfect economy drive.
